Not Another Diet Book

I'm reading this new diet book called the Men's Health TNT Diet. I believe that its no longer about what you eat, its also about when you eat. I've learned this first hand while getting my Personal Training Certification (thanks Frank R.!) and after reading Nutrient Timing a few months later. That's what caught my attention when I saw this book. The cover states, "What to eat when." So I had to check it out.

After reading through about the first 14 pages, I was really impressed. It dispelled all the nutrition "facts" that so many people believe to be true. It once again reinforced what I've learned and have been reading about in other sources with scientific findings to back it up.

For example, people have always been told in order to burn fat you must stay in your "fat burning zone" which is considered to be about around 60-65% of your maximum heart rate. It's like a moderate jog for most people. Ever look at the panel on a treadmill or maybe some chart around the gym? You've seen it. It has heart rate on one axis and age one another? Anyways, you actually burn more fat while doing exercises with higher intensity. How? Read the book!

I'm actually about half way through. My only qualms about this book is that while it does back its findings with science, it doesn't source it like other science books. Maybe Men's Health thought it might look too much like a science book and might turn guys away from it. I think it would give it more credibility.

The TNT diet is basically a low-carb diet much like Atkin's (which I haven't read) or the Zone Diet (also based on scientific research). I've heard a lot of bad things about Atkins and a lot of good things about the Zone. So far, I'm liking the TNT diet. We'll see how the rest of the book goes.
